About Bamburgh

 

This idyllic small country village was once the capital of the kingdom of Northumbria and is arguablly set within the most breathtaking, picturesque coastal region in the country. Whichever way you enter Bamburgh you can't miss the spectacular castle standing 150ft above sea level.

For such a small village there is still so much to see and do. There are a number of great pubs and restaurants with menus that cater for all the family. Carters the Butchers is known throughout the country as its home to the Famous Bamburgh Banger. There is also a village store with its own grown fruit and veg aswell as a newsagents and many quirky gift shops. St Aidans church, the Grace Darling museum, the fantastic golf to be played at Bamburgh Golf Club or just playing a family game in the park are just some of the enjoyment to be had in this great village.

The beach at Bamburgh is part of the National Heritage coastline and designated an area of outstanding natural beauty. The sandy horse shoe shaped beach stretches for miles, overlooked by Bamburgh Castle. From the beach you can see the famous Farne Islands. You can catch a boat to the Farnes from the nearby fishing harbour in the village of Seahouses. The islands are home to large numbers of sea birds and grey seal colonies. The more adventurous can take advantage of fishing and diving excursions to the many wreck sites found on this wonderful part of the coast. 

Within easy reach is also Alnwick with its Famous Castle and Gardens, the historic walled town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, the Borders, Hadrians Wall, Lindisfarnes Holy Island and so much more of what Northumberland has to offer is also why Bamburgh is a great place to stay. So what you waiting for!!
